About

Dutch Senft (b. 2002 in Baltimore, MD) lives and works in Charlottesville, VA. In the Spring of 2025, he will graduate from the University of Virginia with a B.S. from the McIntire School of Commerce, alongside a major in Studio Art and a minor in Art History.

Compelled to action after his older brother Archer—also an artist—became a quadriplegic in 2015, Dutch began painting in his teens. Since then, his work has ranged from large-scale acrylic collaborations with his brother to surreal oil paintings that stage the emotional contradictions of college life. Deeply rooted in personal and collective experience, Dutch paints the world not as it appears, but as it feels.

In Family & Friends, he trusts his instincts to create rough, emotionally charged sketches in oil—quick visions of memory and intimacy. In Grounds for Absurdity, his eclectic influences—Nicole Eisenman, Renaissance art, Adventure Time, Fortnite—collide in a cast of students, robots, clowns, and businessmen just trying to stay afloat. Through his work, Dutch navigates the complexity and contradictions of being an artist, business student, sibling, and fraternity brother—with sincerity, humor, and an eye toward emotional truth.
